Funding a theatre set and lighting manufacturer

The challenge:

In January 2026, we were approached by the accountants of a £1.25 million business specialising in set design and lighting solutions for the theatre and entertainment sector. The company needed £200,000 to move into a larger facility – consolidating multiple sites, reducing rent, fitting out new offices and workshop space and installing a mezzanine floor. The bank had turned down its funding request due to the company’s mixed recent trading performance.

Our solution:

We sourced a tailored package combining a loan and hire purchase finance, enabling the business to:

  • secure the new premises
  • complete the fit‑out and mezzanine installation
  • fund essential electrical and plumbing work
  • streamline operations and reduce ongoing rental costs.

The result:

The company now operates from a larger, more efficient site with improved workflow and lower overheads – positioning it for future growth.

Refinancing a managed print service firm’s acquisition debt

The challenge:

We were asked to assist a managed print service firm with a turnover of £10 million, which had recently acquired another company.

The company needed to refinance over £6 million in debt acquired through the transaction more cost-effectively. We were on the clock, as a major issue and time constraint was an exit fee, which would increase substantially if the deal wasn’t completed within a month.

Our solution:

  • We approached a small group of lenders, which we knew could complete the deal quickly and effectively at the right price
  • Our extensive network of contacts meant we could directly target the right people at the lenders, which further sped up the process

The result:

The company’s debt of over £6 million has now been refinanced quickly, effectively and at a suitable pricing level, utilising a revolving credit facility with the option of interest only payments, enabling the firm to move forward without the headache of paying a costly exit fee under the original financing deal.

Enabling a hospitality provider to buy out a shareholder

The challenge:

A company in the hospitality space required £275,000 to buy out a shareholder. The luxury washrooms provider based in the Southeast was now well-established and, following operational changes put into place after the Covid crisis, a shareholder’s role had become obsolete. As such, negotiations were made to facilitate a share buyback from the investor.

However, at the same time, the company, worth £3 million, was waiting for a payment to come through on a major contract and was also in a Time To Pay arrangement with HMRC.

Our solution:

  • Primary Finance helped source loan funding to enable the firm to complete the share buyback
  • This was facilitated in part by the company’s strong historical financial performance and promising outlook

The result:

The company completed the shareholder exit and achieved savings of around £115,000 per year on the associated salary and benefits.

Supporting a consultancy in purchasing an EV tax-efficiently

The challenge:

A small business worth £1 million wished to purchase an electric vehicle but wanted lower monthly payments than the dealer’s finance offered. The London-based consultancy required hire purchase finance over 36 months with a balloon. It also wanted to claim 100% of the tax allowances available for the vehicle in the then financial year.

Our solution:

  • We helped the company secure £30,000 in hire purchase finance
  • This came with a suitable balloon, so that the repayments were affordable

The result:

The deal was completed within the company’s financial year, enabling it to claim the 100% first year tax allowance against the cost of the new electric vehicle.

Helping a plant hire business bring servicing in-house

The challenge:

A crane hire distributor based in North Wales required funding of £28,500 for new workshop equipment to enable it to service its customers’ hydraulic equipment.

The company, a distributor for an Italian firm, was an experienced but relatively new business to the UK, and the equipment needed was highly specialised.

Our solution:

  • We helped the firm source a suitable hire purchase facility with a 10% deposit over 48 months, supported with a director’s guarantee

The result:

With the equipment now in place, the company can service its customers’ hydraulic pistons in-house instead of having to outsource this to a third party. As a result of the deal, Primary Finance was also asked to meet with the equipment supplier to help arrange funding solutions for it and its customers.

Helping a laundry business refresh its rental portfolio

The challenge:

In April 2026, we were approached by a commercial laundry hire-and-servicing business based in the Southeast.

The company, a well-established supplier of laundry and dry-cleaning equipment to major commercial customers across the UK, wished to refinance its rental equipment portfolio while much of it was out on hire.

The business, with a turnover of around £20 million, required £1.2 million in funding but was part of a larger group with complex financial structures and had been acquired as part of the wider group’s expansion plan.

Our solution:

  • We helped the company secure a £1.2 million credit limit, which it was able to draw down in tranches of £100,000 with a repayment period of 60 months.
  • The firm was able to refinance its existing equipment while out on long-term hire using the rental contracts and paper audits as supporting documents and without the need for these assets to be physically audited.

The result:

Funding was arranged quickly against batches of the company’s rental portfolio, where the remaining term and repayment of the loan facility were aligned. The client was then able to use these funds to purchase new equipment to boost and refresh their hire fleet.
