Independent debt finance advice for UK businesses

At Primary Finance, many of our clients come to us after already having approached one or several banks and failing to secure the finance they need. There are many reasons why a company might not be successful through their own funding search, but in our experience it usually boils down to the fact that they were simply not ‘lender ready’. They did not understand how to properly present their funding requirements to the market and did not have the time or lender insights to prepare themselves and their business for a lender’s due diligence and credit process.

It’s sometimes impossible for a Finance Director to devote the time required to drive a new funding search, as the needs of the day to day business can understandably be very demanding. That’s where we come in.

Our team has been working in the debt finance space for many years, during which time we’ve built up an extensive range of contacts ranging from the more traditional high-street lenders to niche and specialist debt finance providers. Indeed, many funders come to us to help them support their clients if they aren’t able to themselves.

Our value add comes from our ability to obtain debt finance from lenders on our clients’ behalf that they wouldn’t have been unable to access without our support.

3) Validating our approach with funders

We can ‘sense-check’ a recommended approach with the market on a strictly confidential, no-names basis, giving you the confidence that our proposed route truly is the best option for your business. We are uniquely positioned to do this as a third party and because we know how to handle these approaches positively. This would be very difficult to achieve for a business approaching a funder directly.

4) Getting our clients ‘funder ready’

Once a client commits to moving forward with our proposed debt solution, we play a key role in helping to properly present funding requirements to identified funders.

This involves putting together a proposal document or ‘funder pack’ for the lender, enabling them to clearly understand the proposition and helping to streamline the credit underwriting process further down the line. We’ll also provide the necessary direction to ensure your business is fully prepared for the process. This means compiling the business information a funder will need ahead of time and ensuring that key stakeholders understand how to present themselves and their proposition to funders.

We often demonstrate the importance of being funder-ready with a little anecdote from one of our previous clients. We were able to secure the business a £20m facility with the same lender that had previously rejected their funding application, simply by ensuring they were funder-ready and able to present their proposition accurately, but in the best possible light.

As an independent firm, we rarely earn commission from funders. If we do it is always fully disclosed and discounted against any client fees which would otherwise be payable.
